SPT Grass? I wish!

This week's Self Portrait Tuesday topic is "grass".
I love grass and greenery altogether. So I have a serious bone to pick. Here in Nevada we have water restrictions galore because our beloved Lake Mead is shrinking. So we as residents here we are encouraged if not forced (new homes) by the water police to desert landscape our yards, which is NOT my favorite. So you see numerous yards of rock with an occasional fake grass patch or what I call puff balls of grass.

(my front yard, with puff balls of grass, pathetic)

We are allowed specific water times and you can be fined if you're caught watering outside of that time. So here is where I get annoyed. MOST of Lake Mead's water is pumped to the LosAngeles area. And guess what ZERO water restrictions. I ask you... how is this fair??(me this morning in luscious Coto De Caza California)

So I really should'nt complain too much because... weelllll.... I am a water criminal. My backyard was totally ripped out when we moved into this house, and guess what we did? We put in a lawn! And brought the tree back from near death. I could'nt resist. Isn't grass worth the trouble? I think so..

(Our doggie Ace loves it too! He is O" so happy were back from vacation.)

When we moved into our house we had desert landscaping which I was very sad about, but have grown to love. Of course, we put grass in our backyard, which uses up quite a bit of water, but oh well.

I hear your pain. We are Las Vegan's as well! We do have the fake grass just because we couldn't get our real grass to be green!

Man that totally sucks! I can't believe they give LA your water.. That is not fair...
I told Scott yesterday to check his stinking blog & update it. He had forgotten about it & laughed & said he only set it up so he could look at mine??? I told him you guys left him a comment. If he remembers - Good luck!

Beautiful yard. We were on restrictions last year. No fun. No watering at all.

your yard looks totally familiar... Home at last! It took a while to get use to seeing nothing but rocks but now it seems normal to me!

That is really strange about the water going to LA-

I love your grass shots, thanks for stopping by mine! I look forward to next week.
Jared asked recently if we could get fake grass for the backyard. Hmmm, well, we need something back there!!! Desert landscaping is totally for the front yard, grass is for the back. Trees are a necessity. Grass doesn't do you any good if it's baking in the sun!! Burning hot rocks don't help anybody. Shade, shade, shade!!! And we could complain about the Californians stealing our water, but then we wouldn't have any fresh produce to eat... Why do we live in the middle of the desert anyway?

Good for you! I am not a desert landscape kind of person either- it's just ugly. Go water criminal!

I detest desert landscaping, I would have done as you did. The last picture is great!
