Diary of a Makeup Artist #25, Happy Holly-Days!

I must say, going to the mailbox and finding a fun magazine cover that you were a part of, is one of the perks of being a Makeup Artist. Meet Holly Madison. For those of you (like me) who do not know a thing about "The Girls Next Door", whelp she is formerly one of them. Or perhaps you know her as a contestant on "Dancing With the Stars", I know her as the new star of "Peep Show" being that I'm here in Vegas.

This particular shoot I almost missed because my schedule with another 2 day client kept changing. Well I had put my foot down with 2 day client and said look, this is not a shoot I want to give away, all my Vegas Vanities (whom I would trust with my life let alone a client) were booked and I was not about to hand this gig to a newbie. They were cool about it and I was able to hire an assistant to cover me on the 2 day gig . Now as fate would have it, both gigs were at the same location. So I was able to saunter over to the Luxury shoot in a matter of minutes. I hate double dipping days, they're too stressful, trying to get from one location to another and not knowing if shoot 1 is going to wrap on time to make it to shoot 2. I NEVER have this kind of luck, so I avoid the double dip booking.

Another thing I try to avoid (when the bank account is full) are wanna be Playmates. These are the most difficult insecure girls you will ever meet in your life, there is not enough black eyeliner or lip liner to make them happy. The bad hair extensions and cheap plasic surgery really dont help in the self esteem department too. I will admit that I have worked for Playboy directly. BUT only on shoots that involve full clothing.
Now, this Holly Madison girl isnt IMO your typical glamour model. She really has a good head on her shoulders. She is a character, and loves to meet people who themselves play characters. And she takes care of herself. Her skin was flawless and her bod in super duper shape, due to dancing nightly in Peep Show I'm sure. She told me she wants to be in more numbers in the show (it really is a cake job, originally her part was only 1 number shes already up to 3). She's also stoked about being a Vegas resident and is loving living here. (I personally hated my first year here, but what can I say Vegas has been good to me).

So the shoot was in Raos Resturaunt, mmmmm we had an amazing pizza I'd never had before with thinly sliced proscuitto, artichokes, mushrooms and Kamlata olives. You salt lovers would dig this concoction. Beth our publisher and Holly were going for a "Mad Men" feel for the shoot. And remember my friend Jason the costume designer? Well I don't know if I've mentioned that he is also a Wig Master and Hair Designer. I checked to see if he could replace me when i was trying to deal with my schedule and when I told him I didnt need him he pleaded for the chance to work with Holly. So I shared the love and brought him aboard.

For makeup I went with the classic retro Marilyn Monroe look. It takes the right bone structure to pull this look off and Holly certainly has it.

All in all it turned out to be a great shoot and nice and fast... (my fave) And the results are certainly fun.

Oh my goodness! You have a glamourous job!! She IS pretty. Like "real" pretty, not the fake or surgically enhanced pretty, right? My inlaws live in Vegas. I have a love/hate relationship with it. :)

Must be an awesome job to have! That's one career I'll always keep in my back pocket, and perhaps pull out later down the road! My oddly sensible side made me pick a career that guarantees me a job probably forever!

Holly rocks!! Tell her I say "Hi!" next time ;)
